I have two passports one with H4 Visa stamped and another Surname changed. While entering US, I have used my name as in the Visa (new surname) in the I-94 card.
I have applied for H1B with new surname in this May and change of Status with that I-94.
During H1 processing, I have travelled out of US and while entering back I have used old surname( as sometime back DMV ppl told that the name on I-94 should match with H4 Visa)
Now I got H1 approval and COS approval with my middle name taken as first name and new surname.
1) First thing is, the I-94 on COS approval and I-94, currently present in my Passport does not match.
2) First name and middle name are interchanged in the passport and H1 approval.
Is this going to create any problem while applying SSN? What are the possible consequences..
Also, any similar scenarios, plz respond..

you said that you entered on new surname passport and so your i94 will have new surname..
now when again you reentered you entered on old h4 with old surname...
so you have entered US with two different surnames ...
DMV told you correctly..always your surname should match the surname in visa stamp...
you are lucky that immigration officer at port of entry might have overlooked your case..otherwise you must be in your home country by now..
you are in a serious trouble..surname issue is very big..consult a good attroney than posting in the board...

The last point depends on the university. Many accept EAD as sufficient for qualifying as an in-state resident for tuition purposes.
At least, one I am in contact with does.

The dates for H4 I 539 renewal are struck at 14th June 2007 where as most of people who filed their renewal's have already got it. These dates are meaningless.

just a guess, they must be pre-adjudicating - pending a visa number. So, looks like (again a guess), if they pre-adjudicate before the FP expiry date, then you are good, otherwise, they will ask you to go to FP again...

I am in 7th year of H1b now..last time my h1b was renewed dates were until April 2008. I went to india in Dec 2006 and came back in Jan 2007. My passport was expiring on Sept 29th 2007 so Immigration officer dated my I-94 until sept 29th 2007 and told me same thing that you can go to any port of entery or international airport and meet USCIS officer and extend your I-94 with your new passport. I waited until last moment and around sept 24th I went to USCIS officer on airport as well as on Port of Entry (called Deffered Inspection site). Both places got answer you need to file extention online because we only correct mistakes and this is not a mistake but it was case of passport expiration. I called my lawyer, my hr, my company lawyer. Everyone told me I cant work after 29th sept as my i-94 is expiring. Thats same as your H1 expiring. SO either leave country and comeback with new stamping or file new h1b. I ended up filing new H1b as i had only couple of days left before my I-94 would have expired. I have filed I-485 and ead and my I-140 is pending. My pd is Dec 2003. As per my lawyer I want be out of status as mY I-485 is pending but I will loose eligibility to work as I wont have any work authorization once my I-94 expires and dont have EAD approved on my hand. Guys,
I spoke to another Border Post official and he suggested that i drive uptp the nearest border and they would refuse my entry to Canada as i don't have a valid visa and i can turn around and come back to US and i can get a new I-94. Do you think it would be safe to do this ?

What Bright side Buddy? This is a typo by a rooke who got hired into USCIS. Call them they will reissue it for 2 years. You may have to mail this back.

Hi,
Some online tax return websites have capabilities of pulling your W2 information from IRS site. I know turbotax does. Print out all those copies and your pay stubs. Send it to IRS with letter stating your problem. Before you do please apply for extension as april 15th is last date for tax return filing.
My wife worked as a consultant for first half of 2008 with a desi employer as an employee (on W-2). After many calls and emails we received W-2 Thursday that has income and taxes of only first two months. Now he says that he showed remaining 4 months as his profit so he can only send 1099. Please advise if I can take any legal action against this employer.

Cool down dude, I can understand OPs frustrations, I am in same boat and see similar cases around, not that ead or ap is anything great, just that someone who applied before feels rejected seeing TSC giving out eads like cookies:)

This is absurd, IV only helps when you pay, is it a law firm or what?
Like if you are are a donor then you can see certain posts other wise you can not see them, it is like luring peopled and earn money?
Don't take my criticism in a wrong manner, donations should be volunteer can not be forced. Blocking posts for certain people is logical, but if a particular the post is not met for non donors then please do not show the link for them at all, showing the link and when you click them to see the responses then you are not allowed as you are not a donor, is not a proper way, which gives a wrong impression to IV.
I hope IV will take this in a positive way..
