Even though the effect of retrogression is expected to reduce from the current 8+ years, it is still going to hover around 5 years in 2012 (assuming a weak economy and minimal filings).
This line isn't true anymore for EB3 India after correcting the typo in dates. I believe this can be deleted because even in 2012 the wait time is 8+ years. With huge CP numbers (~20K) for EB3I, the wait time will surely increase further which is not factored in the report.

and look at the date when it was posted. Is it a coincidence that IV started a similar initiative two days later? could be... but he deserves some recognition. Ron is an immigration lawyer and not a 10k member organization such as IV so he does what he can, and in my opinion provides a good free of charge, service to the community, something that I don't see a lot of other people doing.

I have been through your situation twice for my 2 kids who were born in houston, texas.
First of all, let me tell you its expensive. You are expected to pay about 2500$ to the doctor, about 3500$ to the hospital, 1500$ for epidural (if used) and also about 1000$ as misc. (for ultra sound, x rays etc).. This is a rough estimate and in my opinion it is still better option than paying for a maternity insurance. This is what I found with maternity insurance, you will be paying about 600 to 700$/ month as a premium for almost a year, and even after that, you will end up paying about 20 or 30% of the cost (which is your deductible).
The complications covered on individual insurance in texas are really not of much help as they only cover catastrophic situations. New borns are usually covered for the 1st month on mom's coverage (for individual insurance).
Keep in mind, the hospital and doctors office will negotiate with you, if you are making cash payment. You will be surprised to know that, I was told 5000$ for my wifes normal delivery (2 night of stay in hospital) by the hospital near houston texas and finally settled down to 2500$ for my first child (back in 2003). Do some research and find out all the hospitals within 25 miles near you..
I know its lot of money but in the end you are giving your kids the American citizenship. Do not get hung up on the money you spent, as the baby will give you lot of joy and will thank you for what you did today (Hopefully;-)..

Ok, I've seen a lot of threads about go to the rally, actions items, I've reading a lot of guys saying dont ask for your receipt status, dont waste your time etc, etc.
Yes we did the rally we were great with all those signs, and appearing in the Indy TV but...
Question remains open:
1. When are they going to increase the GC quota?
2. When congress id going to do something?
I've the feeling that that's it we made our point but we are still with no GC, waiting receipts..............
Things don't happen overnight... From your questions it looks like you half expected lawmakers to come out in the rally and announce that we hereby increase visa numbers to ####. Things dont happen that way.

For those who think this is like another forum like alcoholics anonymous etc. I think that is what this is(not literally though). Without immigration voice or like forums we could be a lot worse. it is good to vent, exert feelings and come out with experiences and share them P2P. This is one of our life lines. hi, personally i am looking for a chance to move to eb2. Being in eb3-I is as good as u will never get ur GC,or by the time you get ur GC, u would have lost your time and patience to live in this country anymore. follow your instincts..

This thread seems to express my thoughts.
I used to wait till my dates got current. With my dates being current since November, I still wait with no sign of improvement.
I tried calling the 1-800 number. But, did not get any useful information.
Took an Infopass appointment couple of weeks back. But, it was of no use.
The officer at the local office read the same status that I see online.
She said that my case was transfered to Texas center. (I knew this since October 2007). Only additional information she gave me was that my namecheck got clreared. (Though this is important, I dont think this really matters to get my case processed).
I told her that I have been waiting since years and some of friends who filed later than me already got their GCs, she felt sorry for me but she said there is nothing she can do for me. Not even a Service Request since my dates are within the processing times.
Its getting difficult for me......Also, in this economy its getting tough everyday to hold on to the job. Who knows may be this year quota might be over too. It will definitely be a big relief if we get the GC.
I thought there is nothing I can do now till my dates goes outside the processing times. Please advice.

I know after we file the i-485 for 180 days, we can change our jobs. But rule is that the new job should be in the same field as the old one.
Can i change my job from a biological researcher to a biostatistician? My current job is in the field of biology, which involves lots of experiments. If I change my job to a biostatistician, which is like a programmer, do i still qualify the "similar filed" rule? thanks for your help!

Biological researcher is a very very very broad term working from bacteria to human genetic diseases; deep sea fish to suspected life forms in asteroids and space debri (astrobiology). It is basically a straightforward description of what you are going to do as a biostatistician and justification of how this will still qualify you as a biological researcher. That makes it very much job specific: if you are going to use statistical methods to analyze GE's cat scanner machine performace it would not be biological research, but if you are going to use some statistical methods in analyzing cat scanned body images and tie your analysis to clinical conditions it would. If you could post both your current job description in your gc application and the prospective biostatistican job description as you see, I can try to help you.

Maybe it has no legal validity. But still why to accept it. If they ask you to pay the fine/penalty, you will have to fight it before winning.
You can do one of these.
1. Ask them to remove the clause from the letter
2. Strike out the portion that mentions these and then sign it. Keep a copy of the signed document for yourself for future needs.
If this is just a "standard", they should not object to one of these. By the way such open ended terms are not common in offer letters. It definitely sounds fishy.

It was good to see and meet you at the rally .I was wondering if IV or its leadership have any updates on, when any bill ( if any) will be unveiled in the house . The end of the year is fast approaching and although we hear every other day that Nancy Pelosi or Zoe Loefgren is going to unveil something , nothing seems to happen . Only letters are flying back and forth each day from Governers and Tech industry representatives , but there seems to be no action . I prefectly agree with the fact that people are getting a bit overly impatient on the issues here , but I who has been patiently waiting and waiting and working with the state chapters just see a lull and silence on the immigration front ( Skilled and Unskilled ) . No one wants to talk about it or do anything about it on the Hill.Please prove me wrong here , I WANT TO BE WRONG !!!

Instead you can have your negotiations with your Doctor and Hospital.
In Dallas (Las Collinas), if you dont have medical insurance, you can have an arrangement with the Doctor and Hospital.
Like one of my friend paid 3K for everything for Delivery + 5K I think for the hospitals. Ofcourse this is based on the delivery is not complicated / C-section couple of years ago.

Therefore, just try to have description of new job as close to the original description in LC, as possible (use same words). It is a subjective area. Both titles point out that you are some sort of software engineer, so, I belive, it should be ok. Yeah right!! buying houses is all hunky-dory when you have all cushy jobs and economy is booming. When economy slows down there will be some people who may lose their jobs with 3000$ mortgages sitting on their head!! And that builder /bank who lobbied for you GC will come knocking on your door asking for payment.
And believe there are defaulters among these highly qualified legal immigrants too!
So again, how did you solve the housing slump problem in the first place???

Greenspan said that the problem is around 200,000 to 300,000 houses. if they are knocked out of the inventory then there will be stablization else the bottom will fall out. now if the immigrant community was united (across national lines) and if we had one organization like IV or someone - who had leverage to talk to builders etc -something along the lines of a union - then this would have made a big difference - but of course the reality is that people get EAD and think their problems have been solved and run to buy a house - the fun part will begin if a recession actually happens
