Isn't it a relief? if the officer calls you for interview, checks your documents and says approved but no GC till PD current? I can live happily with it for couple of years atleast without thinking of GC. The feeling of getting GC in future 100% is almost equal to having GC today. You can change jobs on AC21 without fear and use EAD and AP full force and forget about renewing H1b's
Exactly, I agree with you. I would love to get such an interview call. Atleast after that I will be sure that one day i will get the actual GC.:D

You said you live in NJ, you supposed to have sent you EAD renewal documents to Vermont Service Center as per the USCIS link provided below:

What I understood from my lawyer is to send the renewal documents to address at the bottom of I-485 notice. I may have understood wrong.

Folks, the idea of this thread was to appreciate what Pankaj did and i am sure everyone agrees with me that he did a wonderful job.
To do it or not to do it, is a totally different thing.
This is a learning process and this rally was done for the first time. So, there were a lot of lessons learned.
We will do a better job in the next rally.
Instead of worrying about the rights and the wrongs, lets spread the words, lets get some more local lawmakers meetings, lets educate ppl about the issue.
Come on folks lets use this wonderful oppurtunity to advance our cause, lets use this positive energy to educate ppl more about LEGAL IMMIGRATION.
IV is a platform where we can unite and get things done together. IV does its best, but IV wants individuals to try at their personal level.
Come on guuys so lets start working on positive things and lets keep on moving forward.
GO IV GO

I am just trying to find out the average Lawyer Fee and Cost of GC (including Labor, I-140, 485, AP, EAD etc)
So far I have paid 8K to Lawyer and USCIS.

If they ask for police clearance .. you give it..
Unless it was a felony that requires certain jail-time or something it's not always counted against you.. remember .. purpose is not to exclude shop-lifters.. they got plenty of those in Canada but rather identify and filter out security hazards.. you might need in person interview.. but it should be alright.. I know even US immigration allows folks like that.. so can't imagine Canada being more stringent..

Why shud he call the anti immigrant by that filthy word when all or most of what that guy conveyed with his post are nothin but pure facts. There r hundreds of gultis doing all sorts of illegal stuff in the name of immigration without any shame. Theres a saying that goes like..."If u tell someone as it is, he protests and kicks on ur chest" which seems very appropriate here.
Look man, don't make me say this, but you leave no choice. I know you are a Pakistani terrorist sympathizer only inciting infighting on the forum between Indians from different states. Why are you so focussed on what "hundreds of gultis doing", why not talk about what pakistanis are doing?
I try not to stay away from calling you out and posting a negative post, but you just won't stop doing this over and over again.

You dont have to get NEXUS. It is easier if you do, but you dont Have to.
The wait during regular commute hours in mostly 15 mins. There may be exceptions. However your facts are wrong. NEXUS is not a reqt.
Yes you will need a stable job in Detroit. I am not in IT. I would be transfering to Detroit office of my company but serving same clients that I am serving currently.

I asked my lawyer same question... and she said you can port from EB3 to EB2 using same labor but employer has to withdraw approved I-140 first and this is really dicey.
Best option is to file new PERM + new I-140 and then port the PD
I am going to file a new PERM and new I-140. Assuming the time taken to get new PERM approved is 1 year or 1.5years and than to file new I-140 and to get I-140 approval is going to take a long long time. So my question was after getting the new perm approval can we file new I-140 along with the copy of old approved I-140 from another company or I have to wait to get my new I-140 approved inorder to port priority date. My older I-140 also belongs to EB2 category and new PERM application will also be in EB2.
Thanks.

This came in the newswire today about the challenges being faced in UK amongst the people who entered UK under the high skilled immigration program. Do do our stories in US have any similarity here?
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Disenfranchised_Indians_take_to_streets_in_London/articleshow/msid-1142198,curpg-1.cms
Yes, I heard about them, and I know that a lot of people are moving/going to move to the US and will be flooding the h1b visa quota sooon.

I don't hink so. Under Internal Revenue Code, Tax payer must authorize the requesting party. IRS will not disclsoe any tax payer data to anyone unless authorized by the tax payer in written for each tax year. There is separate form for this process. I think this is very common in the mortgage industry.
-MB
How recent is that ? did they ask you for to submit it this year or in year 2005 ? I'm just curiouse what is IRS has to do with immigration? when did you apply for your I-485?
is there a relationship between taxes and Immigration?

While I do not want to sound discouraging or pessimistic, this is a very good idea and we must do things like this.
Now, it is just not enough if we make this suggestion and discuss it - we must walk the talk. Will we?
To start with, we can do a lot of stuff, get our co workers, families, friends etc.. involved, print flyers, send emails, post blogs, make videos and post them on youtube, hold local community events and increase awareness.
Our own community is still very ignorant and is indirectly working against us, lok at this post on immigration portal
http://boards.immigration.com/showpost.php?p=1859694&postcount=18
just go through the entire thread
http://boards.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=273615
you will understand why things are so difficult for our community.
Our first step will be to concentrate on community building. This is very important. We need to reqruit more volunteers, and they in turn reqruit more volunteers. We must first build a strong community and have a strong foundation.
The reason I am posting this message is to say that whatever novel ideas like the above that have come up in the past have not gone towards getting implemented they just were discusssed and got buried into old threads.
So my question is "can we walk the talk?"

Count me in too
I am totally pissed off with this system. The only wrong step which i took was applying in EB3 when i had three years of experience. Now i have a total almost 10 years experience in IT and still waiting like an illegal immigrant for GC.
PD : EB3 SEPT 2002.

My experience was just great. My company had inhouse immigration deptt and their own attorney as employees.. She was just great and very transparent on every process. She sent all the documents and updated my at every step on where I stand.
I really respect that lady, who was doing way beyond her job profile to keep us updated and well informed. never paid anything for the attorney service or GC filing except a one time fee of $500 when the company hired some attorneys on contract to get over the overwhelming request during July fiasco. The attorney also adviced me and guided me on how to leave the company and what is AC-21 and how to do that. So gave me a lot of pointers on how to choose a new attorney. Though I had a lot of conflict of interest with my company policy and management, one thing I always appreciated about it was that their healthcare and immigration was far better than any company in US. Now I heard its not great and employees have issues related to this. I paid on $15 for the delivery of the baby and that was the total amount I paid in 9 months .. thats it.
The crux of the story is , when choosing a company , initially these things really dun matter but in the long run these are things that really matters, I would suggest everyone who is switching the companies, make sure the company has the right healthcare plan and immigration services. Do not hesitate to discuss this with the HR. I always do and make it clear, whenever I am questioned by HR , I just tell them , "The company has selected me but I haven't selected the company yet." The HR also has the pressure to close the position they will provide you with all the different options. Do not always run for the $$$ a few 1000 $$$ doesn't make the difference as at the end of the day those also shrink with tax and deductions, but the perks like these stay and pay more than $$$
