Many people do not know about this issue yet. My senators do not want to do much on this issue because it is sensitive to bogus national security. My corporate lawyers (and executives) do not want to draw attention to this matter because retrogression is less trickier than this one politically. Guys we need to speak out otherwise nobody will even know about this issue.

You are confused on this. IEEE is against increase of H1B visas. They have never said anything about GCs. If they have, show me where.
Just because the quota got over the first day it implies that the system is abused, right? Let me tell who is abused. People waiting for green card are abused. Not fixing green card delays and deliberately keeping the debate around H-1b is an abuse.

My H1-B expires in another 8 months. I got my Labor cleared (EB-2) in 2 months through Perm and just finished applying for I-140. Before february, if i don't get my I-140 cleared i will go through Premium and apply for H1-B 3 year extension.
Getting my H1-B extended for 3 years is my goal. Once this happens, i will look elsewhere for a new job and start over GC process again hoping thta by then labor laws improve.
I have not dreamed/hoped to get GC. I am only hoping to stay in this country as long as possible.
I still don't understand why people are frustrated with delays in GC?
Why should you even stress yourself too much about this GC. Just enjoy the life and move on.

Mirage - I totally support you man. You got to do what your heart feels like ... If you get too tired of waiting and living this CHAINNNNED life and you want to meet Mr President to let him know how you feel - man by all means you got to do it.. Remember the flutter of a butterfly wings in Jailsalmer starts a tornado in florida... there are numerous occassions when one single man's stand changed the entire nation .. I totally support you . I was checked by immigration authorities when i was comming from San diego to Los Angeles. Near the check post there were signs to go slow for imigration checks. One border patrol car came besides me and waved his hand to pull towards the curb. I changed my lanes and also helped the border patrol to change his lanes towards the shoulder. He got down from his car and asked me what is my status I told H1B. I showed him my ID card and told him to check my status through my ID card. He returned my ID card and let me go. (I don't know why they let me go maybe my name is spanish and my last name is british)

(6) The current USCIS policy and procedure also require that I-485 applications be adjudicated and approved "only after" the completion of clearance of the security checks.
* Issue I: Hypothetically, what happens if the USCIS takes out the visa number before they obtain the security clearace?
o Answer I: Obviously it would violate the rules and the laws.
o Answer II: It will constitue a serious security lapse, compromising the homeland security.

There seems to be a lot of misconceptions on what to do when stopped by CBP (Customs & Border Protection), colloquially known as "Border Patrol".
Border Patrol Agents are federal agents and answer to no state/local authorities except their own. Despite misconceptions on their authority and the civil rights issues of road blocks, Border Patrol agents are authorized to detain and make arrests based on the following -
a. Inability to establish identity
b. Inability to establish immigration status
c. Trafficking - Narcotics, Weapons, Tobacco, Alcohol etc. etc.
d. Detain/arrest felons with federal warrants
e. Enforce laws related to trade agreements/customs
As far as what gives the CBP the right to stop/search you,

If you read through most official US documentation (fine-print), you will see this printed. Aside from being charged from counterfeiting US documents for purposes other than official purposes (application to a US agency), Border patrol will reject such documentation. The only exception after June 1st, 2009 is the following -
"June 1, 2009: ALL persons*, including U.S. citizens and Canadian citizens over the age of 15, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), will be required to present a valid passport or other document such as passport cards, NEXUS or SENTRI cards, or driver's licenses that meet certain security requirements. Children 15 years of age and younger are exempt from the passport requirement, although they will be required to have copies of their birth certificate. (The copy does not have to be certified, xerox copies are ok, but certified is always better.) Teens between the ages of 16-18 who are part of an adult-supervised school, religious, cultural, or athletic group, are also exempt from the passport requirement if traveling by land or sea."
You will be detained if the Border Agent decides that there is enough suspicion to do so but it is up to the discretion of the agent. Technically, you are supposed to carry documentation, IN ORIGINAL. Some exceptions are those who have a valid Driver's License from states who have implemented the "REAL-ID" act.
